The only way of avoiding disasters in your graphic design business is to have a proper communiaction with your clients. You need to communicate with your clients and come to a decision regarding payment, deadlines, responsibilities, ownership of the artwork, and the printing process. Once you come to an agreement with your client you should take down everything in written format and you must ensure that both of your signatures are there on the written paper.
1. Outline Payment Terms :- While dealing with your client you must decide the aspects of your payment properly. You must know how much money you need to give to the client if the project is not completed in the stipulated period of time. Also be clear on the fact that what will be the consequences if the project is not completed due to the client or due to you.
2. Give a Time line :- In order to make the client feel comfortable you must always give them a time line. You should tell them the detail of your plan as to how much time you need on research, how long they have to ask for changes, when they can expect a first draft and when you will complete the project.
3. Describe Your Responsibilities :- You must discuss your responsibilities with the client. The client need to know whether the entire research will be done by them or does the client need to supply some materials.
4. List Client Responsibilities :- In the agreement papers also mention the client's responsibility. What materials they need to supply to you. Do they need to provide you with a professional photographer.
5. State Who Owns the Artwork :- The ownership of artwork must be mentioned in the agreement.
